Yvonne Johnson honored in first Greensboro City Council meeting since her passing

Mayor Vaughan said the day should be a day that people work in service because that is what she did every day.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro City Council remembered Yvonne Johnson in their first meeting since her passing on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

Mayor Nancy Vaughan spoke tonight about working on a resolution to honor Yvonne and her commitment to Greensboro.

Back on Dec. 4, 2007, Yvonne was sworn in as mayor. It's also the day she passed away this year.

Vaughan spoke about how that date was important to Yvonne and they want to make it the Honorable Yvonne Jeffries Johnson Day.

Mayor Vaughan said the day should be a day that people work in service because that is what she did every day.

"We want to do something that truly recognizes Yvonne for the trailblazer that she was. All the people she has impacted in the city of Greensboro. So Yvonne we're going to miss you, true and faithful servant," said Vaughan.

Yvonne would be only the second person the city has done this for.
