RANDLEMAN, N.C. (WFMY) – Imagine being a long-time fan and finally meeting racing legend Richard Petty. Pretty cool, huh?
How about we one-up that scenario... You meet Richard Petty and you drive off with one of his race cars!
Renea Rottler was the lucky winner of an Omaze auction.
Rottler traveled to North Carolina for the first time with her husband Mark from Troy, Missouri to meet the King himself at his home in Randleman.
There, she got a first look at her brand-new Petty's Garage Chevy Camaro SS.
“You never actually think you'll win,” Rottler said in an interview. “It was wonderful to hear I'd won the whole experience with him and the car.”
In case that wasn't enough, the Missouri woman also tested her new wheels out with Petty and one of his crew members as her passengers.
“[This was] something a little special, not just say here are the keys,” Mr. Petty said. “She gets to know us, we get to know her and she's a big fan too so that helps everything.”
After her ride-along and private tours of Petty’s Garage and Petty’s Museum, Rottler and her husband enjoyed a traditional North Carolina meal of barbecue, coleslaw and hushpuppies with the winningest driver in NASCAR history.
The money collected through the Omaze raffle will go to the Petty Family Foundation which supports Victory Junction, Paralyzed Veterans of America and other local non-profit organizations.
