Woodlawn Middle School teacher assistant, principal charged after alleged student abuse

Deputies believe a teacher's assistant was abusing a student while the principal was charged for failing to report the abuse.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — A Woodlawn Middle School principal and teacher assistant have both been charged for allegedly abusing a student, according to the Alamance County Sheriff's Office. 

An investigation opened up on Friday, April 26. 

Deputies believed that a teacher's assistant physically assaulted a student during school hours. 

Through multiple interviews, detectives charged teacher's assistant William Michael Jackson with misdemeanor child abuse and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 years of age. 

Detectives also charged principal Thomas William Kazimir with misdemeanor failure to report crimes against juveniles. 

Both Jackson and Kazimir appeared before a magistrate on Thursday. 

According to ABSS, Jackson's last day of employment was Thursday after working with the district for 10 months. Principal Kazimir is currently suspended with pay while the district and law enforcement investigations continue. 

Woodlawn Middle School staff and families will be notified.
