Woman Dies Going Almost 100 MPH In I-73 Crash In Randolph Co.: Highway Patrol

A 25-year-old woman died in a crash on I-73 in Randolph County.

RANDLEMAN, NC (WFMY) - A Washington, D.C. woman died Sunday afternoon in a single-car crash on I-73 in Randolph County after authorities say she was driving nearly 100 miles an hour.

Elandra Lavern Butts, 25, was driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra going north near the 86-mile marker in Randleman when she used the grass median to pass a car in the left lane.

Butts lost control of the car, overcorrected, got back onto the road, then ran off the road to the right and hit a tree according to North Carolina Highway Patrol. She died at the scene of the crash around 3:45 p.m. A male passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Highway Patrol estimated Butts was going almost 100 MPH.
