WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Triad celebrated Pride Month in the 11th Annual Winston-Salem Pride parade on Saturday, June 22.
Every year the festival brings thousands of members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies to downtown Winston-Salem.
One parade-goer said she felt like she belonged as she attended her first pride event.
"I feel excited like I feel like that sense of belonging and acceptance people are always talking about. l Like, here are my people. I felt that hype, the energy, it was wonderful," said Sheila Whitehurst.
Greensboro holds its own pride festival in September. This year, it will be on Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
