The Winston-Salem Police Department gathered to honor the life of one of their own Friday.
February 23 marks the anniversary of the death of Winston-Salem officer Sergeant Howard Plouff.
He was killed while controlling a crowd at the Red Rooster Nightclub in 2007.
In his honor the department held a memorial.
The Winston-Salem Police Department also released this statement in memory of Sgt. Plouff in a social media post.
On this day, we remember and pay tribute to the life and service of Sergeant Howard J. Plouff who was tragically killed in the line of duty on February 23rd, 2007. His dedication to duty, unwavering courage, and ultimate sacrifice remind us of the profound commitment of our law enforcement heroes. As we honor his memory, let us also extend our deepest gratitude to his family, friends, and colleagues for their enduring strength and sacrifice. Rest peacefully, Sergeant Plouff. You will never be forgotten.
