WASHINGTON D.C., DC — While Memorial Day may be a day off for some, it is a somber time for many others — a time to honor everyone throughout the U.S. who paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
A Winston-Salem police officer did just that for a fallen fellow Marine.
While in DC, Officer Edris took the time to visit the gravesite of Sgt. Kevin B. Balduf, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2011.
The Winston-Salem Police Department shared the following post on its FB page:
Memorial Day is a day dedicated to honoring all of the men and women who sacrificed their life while serving our Country. While in Washington D.C., Officer Edris visited the gravesite of his fellow Marine who was tragically killed in Afghanistan by an Afghan policeman while serving during Operation Enduring Freedom on May 12th, 2011. Marine Sergeant Kevin B. Balduf was 27 years old and assigned to the 8th Communications Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejune, NC. He was a loving father, Purple Heart recipient, and a Bronze Star Medal with Valor recipient. Officer Edris and Marine Sergeant Balduf served alongside one another in the same Battalion prior to Officer Edris joining the Winston-Salem Police Department. On this day, let us remember all of those we have lost serving our Country. We must not forget the reason this day is recognized.
