Wilkes Co. Teacher Accused of Bringing Six Syringes, Other Drug-Use Tools to School

The SRO found a rubber tourniquet, six empty syringes, one butane lighter, and one metal spoon.

WILKESBORO, N.C. — A Wilkes Central High School teacher is accused of bringing several drug-use tools to school including six syringes, according to the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office. 

School administrators contacted the sheriff's office on Thursday about a teacher possibly using drugs.

School Resource Officers investigated and found six empty syringes, one rubber tourniquet, one butane lighter, and one metal spoon. 

As a result, Phillip Ray Bare was charged with one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Wilkes County Schools says Bare has been suspended without pay. 

The school system says it is cooperating fully with law enforcement during the investigation.
