ALLEGHANY COUNTY, N.C. — The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission said an investigation is underway after the deadly shooting of an eagle.

Wildlife officers said someone shot and killed a Bald eagle on June 5 near Farmers Fish Camp Bridge.

It's not clear if the shooting was intentional or not.

Investigators have a suspect but have not filed any charges.

Bald eagles are federally protected, and killing one could land someone in prison, depending on the circumstances.
