WELCOME, N.C.-- Three masked men attempted to break into the home of NASCAR Legend Richard Childress. The men tried to enter Childress' home Sunday night just before 10:30 p.m. A window was broken beside a door knob on the lower level of the home which activated an alarm, according to the police report.
Davidson County Sheriff Grice confirmed Childress fired shots at the three robbery suspects. Grice said it does not appear that any of the suspects were injured before getting away.
According the sheriff, the three men were armed with two long guns and a handgun. Grice said the NC Castle Doctrine allows a person the right to defend themselves against this type of intrusion.
Childress told Sheriff Grice that he felt, “the only reason he and his wife were here today was because of God and the Second Amendment.”

First and foremost... Richard Childress is board member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He currently serves as the NRA's Vice President of the Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Committee. He's been a member of the organization for years.
Childress loves his guns and he loves to hunt.
Childress is wealthy. He's a former NASCAR driver and owner of the Richard Childress Racing team based in Welcome, NC. He opened the Richard Childress Racing Museum also located in Welcome. And not everything he owns is related to racing, he owns Childress Vineyard which opened in 2003. The Vineyard is located in the Yadkin Valley.
According to The Richest website, Childress is worth $200 million as of 2017.
Childress is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those involved.
