ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. -- In three years and three months, there have been three district attorneys in Rockingham County.
Craig Blizter started in January 2015.
In March of 2017, he resigned amid an SBI investigation.
The next week, the Governor appointed Tom Keith as interim D.A.
In February, Keith announced plans to resign after working to get the office back on track.
Now, Jason Ramey, is in charge of the office.
Governor Cooper appointed him Thursday.
Ramey says he is honored to be able to serve as the District Attorney in the county he grew up in.
He knows the problems affecting the D.A.'s office, and believes people of Rockingham County are ready to move forward.
"I think they're tired of this. They're tired of the negativity, they're tired of the shame that's been brought upon this office," said Ramey.
The Rockingham County DA's office still has 16 cases it will review from Blitzer's time in office that might have problems, and Ramey says it will be a very open process to help restore some credibility.
"If there's a problem with a case, and it's a problem that's serious and needs to have a drastic remedy it's going to be open to the public. People are going to know, and we're going to fix it. We're not going to hide anything -- you can't hide it even if you want to, and that's not the right thing to do," said Ramey.
Ramey is only guaranteed to be in the position until the end of the year.
This is an election year, with the primary just about a month away. Ramey is running against fellow Republican Ron Bradsher.
Whoever wins the May primary, will win the election, because they're the only ones running.
Ramey says whether he serves the County for 9 months, or 4 years, he wants to leave it better than he found it.
