Eric Chilton to serve in new role with the City of Greensboro

Chilton says he's looking forward to being able to continue serving his community in a new way.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2's Eric Chilton will end a decades-long career in TV News come Friday, Nov. 8. Chilton has become a fixture in the homes of WFMY News 2 viewers for several years. Viewers have seen him do it all - from forecasting the weather, anchoring the news, and interviewing key figures in our community.

Chilton will take on the new role of Greensboro’s Strategic & Crisis Communications Manager, effective November 13. Known for his versatility in roles from weather forecasting to news anchoring, Chilton retires from broadcast news after 36 years, with 28 of those spent in the Piedmont Triad. 

In his new role, Chilton will lead the city’s crisis communication efforts, focusing on proactive strategies to manage sensitive issues and protect Greensboro’s reputation. 

“Eric’s experience and strong community ties will be invaluable to the executive team,” said City Manager Trey Davis. 

Chilton, who has also trained corporate leaders in media relations, expressed his enthusiasm for the role: “I’m honored to serve Greensboro in a new capacity and look forward to using my media background to assist city leadership and engage with citizens.”

Throughout his career, Chilton earned two Emmy Awards and recognition from the Associated Press for excellence in feature reporting.
