LEXINGTON, N.C. — Over 100 WestRock employees will be laid off in Lexington in a matter of weeks, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act notice filed by WestRock.
"The capital investment required to keep the Lexington facility competitive is significant, and the Company believes it is better deployed in other key assets of the business," Senior Manager, Corporate Communications Robby Johnson said.
The company plans to close the facility in mid-May of 2024. Production will be moved to other locations within the WestRock Network, according to the company.
An employee told WFMY News 2 that they will receive outplacement assistance and they are eligible to apply for positions at other WestRock facilities.
