"This will take more traffic off Battleground or any of these crosstown-connectors like Horse Pen Creek, or any of the roads folks use to get east or west," said Mike Fox, the chairman of North Carolina Board of Transportation.
It will also create a huge for drivers on the eastern side of Greensboro who are trying to get to the Piedmont Triad International Airport faster. Crews were still putting final touches before drivers would get to use the road.
"We're finishing up on some of the signings, the markings on the road and there's some gutter work that needs to be done as you get off the ramp right there on Battleground Avenue," said Fox.
The final section will connect US 29 to Lawndale. The N.C.D.O.T plans to break ground on that phase of the loop project by the end of May. This phase of the loop project cost an estimated $123 million dollars. The contractors have set their target to get the entire project completed before 2022.
