SUMMERFIELD, N.C. — At age 15, he’s gone through more than anyone at his age should!
Johnny Van Kemp has beaten cancer now for the third time.
He’s back home in the Triad where he was greeted by family, friends, and an entire celebration all in his honor.
Kemp received a personal escort from law enforcement and firefighters after arriving at Piedmont Triad International Airport (PTI) all the way to his home in Summerfield.
Kemp was overwhelmed with emotion while arriving to a crowd of hundreds of people lined up along the street. The crowd including close family, friends, and fellow students from Northern Guilford cheered on Kemp as he arrived.
WFMY News 2 first met Johnny after he beat leukemia the first time back in 2012. Johnny was just seven years old at the time.

Four years later, it came back. Then in October 2018, it came back again. He's in remission now. He recently completed his last immunotherapy at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. It's a process that uses his own cells to fight off cancer cells. After chemo, doctors put his new and improved cell back in his body. The process took about seven weeks.
