GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Students, teachers and community members will gather Tuesday evening at Welborn Middle School to remember teacher Laurrissa Armstrong.
The hour-long event is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. School board representative Carlvena Foster and Dr. Tobias LaGrone are expected to speak. Guests will release red and white balloons before the event is finished.
In August, Laurrissa's estranged husband shot her multiple times outside her apartment at Steeplechase Apartment Complex. She died from her wounds about a week after the incident.
Within hours after the shooting, police found Laurrissa's husband, Bruce Ray Armstrong, dead in a rental car in the parking lot of a Lowe's Home Improvement.
WFMY News 2 obtained court documents that showed Laurrissa filed for a protective order against her husband. The documents outlined previous incidents between her and her husband. The court denied Laurissa's request for a protective order.
Laurrissa started working with Guilford County Schools in 1996. She was the Career and Technical Education teacher at Welborn Middle School.
A Welborn Middle School representative said Laurrissa's family is requesting community members make donations to the Feeding 7000 project at Williams Memorial CME Church.
