Lumberton, NC -- The family of a 12-year-old boy fatally shot in the head last week says his death was the result of an ongoing feud that led to two teenagers being charged with murder. Police in Lumberton say sixth-grader Damian Stephens was shot in the back of the head with a .22-caliber handgun while inside his uncle's pickup truck while at a Lumberton intersection last Thursday. He died Saturday at Duke University Medical Center. Josh Dial and Jonathan Smith had been out on bail after their arrest soon after the shooting. They're now being held without bond after charges were upgraded to first-degree murder. Investigators say it's not clear why Stephens was shot, but his older brother is charged with firing at the home of Dial and Smith in October. Donna Stephens says it will be difficult to plan to bury her child days before Christmas.
