Vaughan Furniture To Close B.C. Vaughan Plant In Galax, Virginia

The company will cutapproximately 275 jobs. Layoffs in the plant will begin on or around May 20.

Galax, VA -- Vaughan Furniture Companywill cease operations in its last remaining manufacturing facility, the B. C. Vaughan plant.

The company will cutapproximately 275 jobs. Layoffs in the plant will begin on or around May 20. The company will offer affected employeesa severance package and employment counseling,.

Vaughan Furniture will also apply for benefits for the affected employees under the Trade Act Assistance Program.

"The plant closing is not the fault of the employees of Vaughan Furniture Company" said Bill Vaughan, CEO.

"This move is a direct result of the continued popularity of imported wooden bedroom furniture. Our customers simply preferred to buy more and more product from overseas. Even though we have kept the plant operating as long as possible, this is a profoundly sad day for all of us. We will miss working with all of these employees very much."

After the B. C. Vaughan plant closes, the Company will operate the T. G. Vaughan Distribution Center and the Corporate Office, both in Galax.

"Our import business continues to grow, and we expect to employ approximately 35 people as we move our company forward as a marketing and sourcing supplier to America's furniture retailers" said Vaughan.

Taylor George Vaughan, Sr., his wife Blanche andbrother Bunyanfounded Vaughan Furniture Company in Galax in 1923.
