THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Thomasville Police say a UPS truck driver walked away unscathed from an accident involving a train on Friday morning.
Police responded to a crash involving a UPS truck and a Norfolk Southern train at the railroad crossing at Turner Street near East Main Street.
Police say the UPS driver, Barry Jones, 44, tried to cross the railroad crossing while the crossing guard arms became coming down for an approaching train.
The truck got stuck on the tracks, and was hit by the approaching train.
Police say the back of the delivery truck was severely damaged, but the driver was not hurt.
Police gave Jones a ticket for failure to obey active railroad crossing signals. They say impairment, distractions, and speed were not factors in the crash.
