Leaders say when the firefighters arrived, they immediately started doing CPR on the roof, but when the firefighters then tried to safely lower the patient to the ground, the building collapsed.

WFMY News 2 spoke to a neighbor who said they saw the victim and firefighters fall.

"It made a big enough noise at almost everybody around that area came out their house," Everybody had fallen through, when I got over there all I could hear was people screaming in pain like groaning," McKenzie Jones said.

Seven firefighters in total were injured. Six of them were taken to the hospital and one was treated at the scene.

Some of the fire fighters injuries include: a fractured wrist, a gash on the head that will needed stiches.

One Guilford County fire fighter has serious injuries but is expected to recover.

Regarding the patient, emergency services identified him as a 54-year-old male.
