GREENSBORO, N.C. — UNC Greensboro is suspending more of its study abroad programs as more countries receive CDC Travel Warnings due to the coronavirus.
UNC Greensboro announced Wednesday it has suspended all study abroad programs in China, Italy, Japan, and Iran. This comes after UNCG suspended its study abroad program in South Korea following the CDC's recommendation to avoid non-essential travel. Moving forward, the university said it will suspend study abroad programs for any additional countries the CDC designates with Level 2 or Level 3 Travel Warnings.
"We will continue to follow CDC and US State Department guidance going forward for any countries where we may have students or faculty participating in international programs. We continue to monitor this evolving situation impacting education abroad students, faculty, and staff across the globe," UNCG officials said in a statement.
UNCG officials said it is working to reintegrate its students returning from abroad back into its Greensboro campus curriculum so students do not have their academic standing interrupted and maintain on pace to graduate. The school will not reimburse any travel plans to those areas that originate after March 2, 2020.
Elon University has also suspended its study abroad program amid growing concerns of the virus.
