CHAPEL HILL, NC (WNCN) - A UNC student who had previously defaced the University's Confederate monument was arrested following a demonstration about the statue returning to campus.
Maya Little surrendered at the Orange County Courthouse in Hillsborough on Tuesday and was charged with inciting to riot and assaulting a law enforcement officer.
She helped lead a rally Tuesday night at McCorkle Place after the University announced it would place the Confederate monument back on campus in a newly erected building with a price tag in the millions.
She called on UNC graders and teaching assistants to go on strike.
"Silent Sam" was torn down by protesters on Aug. 20.
Little had been vocal against Silent Sam's presence on campus for more than a year.
In October, Little, a graduate student, was found guilty of vandalizing "Silent Sam" during a demonstration in April. She smeared paint and her own blood on the Confederate monument.
