GREENSBORO, N.C. -- It's the 19th year for the annual "Gathering of Friends," put on by Earlier.org - Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test. Monday's event featured a breast cancer research update and a keynote address from Hatchell. The fundraiser was held at the Joseph S. Convention Center.

Coach Hatchell missed all of last season while undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia.

"The biggest part of the battle that I've gone through with leukemia is right up here, you know. I told my doctors to give me the game plan, and I'll do it. Now it was hard. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, but I knew I had to do that. In fact, I tell people all the time, you don't realize how strong you can be until strong is all you have," said Coach Hatchell.

She added that the hardest part was not being around people. Hatchell said her immune system was gone, and she wasn't allowed to be around people.

Coach Hatchell has successfully completed treatment and is now getting ready for the upcoming season.
