Eden Flea Market reopens after truck crashes through building

Luckily, no one was hurt.

EDEN, N.C. — A truck crashed into the Eden Flea Market Saturday morning.

Eden police said 71-year-old Thomas Hankins crashed his truck into the building. Officers cited him for careless and reckless operation and had him complete a DMV review.

One of the booth vendors said she was there when the truck crashed into the building. She said she ran to get out of the way when the truck crashed into her booth and the booth beside hers before stopping.

The fire department responded. Luckily, no one was hurt.

The booth vendor we spoke to said this could have been much worse. She said normally, kids like to play arcade games at the front of the building, but thankfully, no kids were there when the truck crashed.

Eden Flea Market said they are back open, but some vendors have to shut down until more cleanup can be done.

The flea market shared more on its Facebook page:

"In light of the event that has happened earlier today, we would like to let everyone know that nobody was seriously injured. There are a lot of rumors going on, on how this happened so we would like to clear up as much as we could at this point. It was not a dog that ran the truck through the building and the gentleman driving stated he did not know how he got there or where he was. We assume that it was a medical condition but we do not actually know at this point. We would also like to let you know that the Eden Flea Market  is still open however unfortunately some of the vendors had to be shut down until cleanup is complete but 90% of the building is up and running and the outside is fully running, tomorrow we will run as normal the inside will be open from 8:00 to 5:00 and the outside from sun up to sundown. We thank everybody for their concerns and hopefully this clears stuff up."
