Transit company that operates buses in Greensboro now contracted with Winston-Salem

Workers who were with Transdev Services will have the opportunity to apply for the new company.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem Transit Authority is ending its contract with Transdev Services, which employs nearly 200 people.

Many of the workers operate buses or maintain them.

The city said it is switching to a new transit company. Councilmembers approved a 5-year, $150 million contract with RATP Dev in May. It's the same company that operates buses in Greensboro.

The city said Transdev workers will have the opportunity to apply for the new company.

We reached out to Transdev to learn more about the end of its contract and what it will mean for workers.

"We are no longer the contractor operating at Winston Salem Transit Authority as of July 31, 2023. We are working with our client to ensure a smooth transition to the new provider who begins on August 1st. As is typical in these contracting situations, we expect most employees to transfer over to the new contractor," a spokesperson for Transdev said.

Leaders say bus riders shouldn't notice immediate changes since buses will be running the same routes.
