Damages after the entrance signs of North Carolina A&T State University were vandalized total in the thousands.
According to an incident report the damages are $10,000 after someone spray painted the brick sign on Oct. 31.
University Police Department (UPD) cameras detected someone who was wearing all black with their face covered and carrying a black bookbag, walking on the campus while officers were patrolling residential areas and other sites where groups of people gathered.
"We are taking this matter seriously and are actively working to identify those responsible and to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to address this issue and prevent future incidents," UPD Public Information Officer Shante Lipscomb said. "The safety and preservation of our campus environment are of utmost importance to UPD, and we are committed to maintaining a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for all members of our community."
Some of the messages spray-painted on campus signs and buildings were political in nature, the school said.
"It's so many ways to get that message across," third-year student Vance Jenkins said. "Be vigilant, be aware of your surroundings."
