Car Was Racing Before Hitting Utility Pole, Knocking Out Power: Police

A car hit a utility pole in east Greensboro Tuesday morning, causing traffic delays and power outages.

GREENSBORO, N.C. - More than 2,500 Duke Energy customers were without power in Guilford County after a car slammed into a power pole Tuesday morning.

It happened 7:15 a.m. at the corner of McConnell Rd. and Franklin Blvd. in Greensboro.

Neighbors who witnessed the car wreck jumped into action and called 911.

Police believe two vehicles were racing, heading East on McConnell Road.

Police say one of the vehicles lost control, ran off of the road, and hit a power pole.

Three men were in the car that crashed into the power pole.

Police say the men were able to climb out of the damaged vehicle before emergency crews arrived.

All three men were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still searching for the other vehicle involved in the incident.

A section of McConnell Rd. remained closed until the scene was clear.

Drivers were encouraged to the avoid the area or follow the detours posted.

Greensboro police are handling the investigation.

Still no word on the age of the drivers or possible charges.
