THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- No phones and no schedules.
That's what Thomasville Police Chief Jeff Insley says he's looking forward to when he retires next February.
Chief Insley was hired in August 2009 after the retirement of then Chief Ronald Bratton. Since then, Chief Insley has introduced problem-oriented policing, enhanced the department's technology, stressed training for officers and staff members for the challenges they may face, and restructured the department to build stronger relationships within the community.
Chief Insley's coworkers say he always stressed to the department to do the right thing for the right reason.
The department will begin looking for a new chief immediately. The City Manager will be publishing a citizen survey to gather information regarding hiring a new police chief. It will be available on the city webpage on Friday, October 21.
There will be two citizen input meetings on November 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station 22 on 815 South Highway 109 and November 2 at 6:30 p.m. at Ball Park Community Center, 7003 Ball Park Road. Surveys will be available at those meetings.
Chief Insley's last day in office will be February 3, 2017. From all of us at WFMY News 2, we wish him a happy retirement.
