LEXINGTON, N.C. — A Davidson County man walked into Marts To Go on Cotton Grove Rd. in Lexington and purchased a $30 scratch-off. That scratch off was Hunter Hagerman's ticket to $1 million from the NC Education Lottery.
When he arrived at the lottery headquarters to collect the money, Hagerman was given the choice of how he would receive his winnings.
Hagerman would either receive $50,000 over the span of 20 years, or a lump sum of $600,000.
He chose the $600,000. After state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $429,009.
