Ann Pipines was born in New York and raised her family in New Jersey before she and her husband, James, moved to Wilmington for retirement. Governor Mike Easley and Mary Easley keep a home in nearby Southport.
The first lady's mother died Monday at Cape Fear Hospital. The family scheduled visitation for Thursday night at a Wilmington funeral home.
In addition to her husband of 65 years and her daughter, Mary Easley, Mrs. Pipines is survived by another daughter, Irene Pipines Kittrell of Burlington, and her grandson, Michael F. Easley Jr.
