GREENSBORO, N.C. — Two 14-year-old boys and one 15-year-old boy are dead after a crash with a Greensboro officer early Wednesday morning. The officer remains in the hospital for treatment for serious injuries at this time, police said.
The crash happened at 2:15 a.m. on Walker Avenue, where a vigil is now placed.
The sister of one of the teens said her brother, 14-year-old Kenyan Saxton-Reese, left with his friends that night and never returned home.
"He was a good teen, and this is tough on the family," she added.
She said her brother just finished 8th grade and enjoyed sports: basketball, baseball, football, and wrestling, and participated in all of them.
The family is holding a candlelight vigil in his honor Thursday night.
Guilford County Schools released a statement following the crash:
"We are greatly saddened to learn about the loss of three of our students. Crisis teams will be available to support students and staff. Our hearts are with the families during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for their privacy and the ongoing investigation, no additional information will be provided."
Greensboro police also released a statement, saying in part:
"The officer and his family want to express their appreciation for the outpouring of support for his recovery. As we move forward, please continue to keep all of those affected in your prayers."
