Teen girl dead after hit by car in Greensboro

Greensboro police said the crash happened on Old Oak Ridge Road.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police responded to a crash with injuries Wednesday night on Old Oak Ridge Road.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. between Cardinal Ride and Taunton Drive.

A driver of an SUV was going south on Old Oak Ridge when he hit a 15-year-old girl who police believe walked into the road or was on a skateboard.

Officers said she died at the scene. The driver remained on the scene and impairment is not a factor.

Police also haven't said if speed was as factor, the driver doesn't face any charges at this time.

Mike Scott, a resident in the area for 10 years, said he pulled up on the crash Wednesday night.

"Ever since I've lived here, people rip up and down this road," Scott explained. "The speed limit is 45 but everybody is probably doing 55 or 60."

Scott said he's almost been hit on his motorcycle because people aren't aware. He said he takes his dog out for walks frequently and is worried about drivers.

"If my dog gets out, the last place I want him to come is this way out towards this road because people are just flying, and they are just not paying attention and it's every single day. It's every morning, it's every evening," Scott said.

Greensboro Police said this year alone, since January there have been 11 pedestrian versus car related deaths.

GPD said if you are driving at night, drive a little slower and be aware of your surroundings.

Same thing for people out walking, make sure you stay aware of where you are, and what is around you.

This investigation is ongoing.
