DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. -- Police say a Salisbury teen drowned in Davie County Saturday night at the Riverpark at Cooleemee Falls.
The Cooleemee Police Department responded to a missing person's call near Cooleemee Falls around 6 p.m.
Cooleemee police say the 17-year-old boy was swimming under the falls at the park, the last place his family saw him. He was found by rescue squad about 35 minutes later on a boulder about 200 yards away. He was pronounced dead.
The boy likely got submerged under water by the falls and couldn't get back up in time, according to police.
The teen's identity hasn't been released yet. Agencies from Davie County and Rowan County assisted with the search.
