GREENSBORO, N.C. — There are 41 days until Christmas (and counting!). If you buy presents now, will the person you give them to be able to return them if they need to? Most typical return policies are 30 days. We're going to look at Walmart and Target.
EXTENDED HOLIDAY RETURN POLICIES
Walmart: Anything* bought now until the end of the year can be returned all the way up until January 31, 2024.
Here’s where that * comes in. When it comes to major appliances, luxury items, and wireless phones, the extended holiday return policy does not apply. It is a different timeline for each of those types of items. For example, there is only a two-day window for major appliances.
Target: For most items, there is a 90-day return policy. That gets you well past the holidays. The extended holiday policy kicks in for items that normally have a shorter window like electronics and entertainment items. The refund period begins on December 26, 2023, and lasts for 30 days (into 2024).
All Apple products, except for phones, have a 15-day refund period starting on December 26.
WILL WALMART & TARGET PRICE MATCH?
Target: The website says to shop early with confidence. If you buy something in-store or online and the price goes lower at Target on or before December 24, you can request a price match.
Keep in mind, that you will need your receipt for this.
Also, know that the price match is good for online to store or store to online, but it's only good for the Target you bought it at, not another location's sale price.
Walmart: The company will match prices that you see in the store with the prices you see online. But down the webpage, there is a list of “sorry we don't match” items. What caught my attention was this:
