Hot & Sweaty: How to best use antiperspirant & deodorant

Our bodies have about 4 million sweat glands.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The saying is: 'Never let them see you sweat'. On a day like today, that's unrealistic, and sweating is healthy

"Everybody does sweat. We should sweat to regulate temperatures in our bodies. Some people just have a tendency to really sweat a lot," said Dr. Daniel Taheri, LA Laser Center.

Our bodies have about four million sweat glands in all and about 2% of those are in our armpits, which we know can sometimes stink!

"Body odor is created when the bacteria that live on your skin break down the sweat particles," said Taheri.

That is why deodorant and antiperspirant were created and there is a difference between the two.

Antiperspirant slows down the sweat process by up to 30% but has no scent.

Deodorant doesn't manage sweat, but it does block body odor.

Experts say you should put on an antiperspirant at night when you go to bed so it has time to take effect for the next day,  especially since many antiperspirants last 24 hours. In the AM, work out, take a shower, and then apply deodorant to be odor-free and dry all day.

How do you know if you stink more than others?

Without asking anyone, your ears can tell you. If you have dark and sticky ear wax, chances are people are smelling you more.
