SUMMERFIELD, N.C. — The North Carolina Senate is reviewing a possible de-annexation that could make way for a development project in Summerfield.
House Bill 5 -- which encompasses this proposal -- is on the calendar to vote on Thursday, but it has not come to the floor yet.
Essentially if the Senate votes to de-annex, the town would lose nearly 1,000 acres of land for a new commercial property.
This would include apartments and several store fronts.
There has been a lot of push back from neighbors, which prompted the developer to go to lawmakers for help.
A vote is expected to be made by the end of Thursday.
