Strongman Dies

Johnny Perry, a former professional wrestler who flipped four-door Ford Escort automobiles for sport, has died at age 30.

Johnny Perry, a former professional wrestler who flipped four-door Ford Escort automobiles for sport, has died at age 30. The Wake County sheriff's office says Perry was found dead in his bedroom yesterday morning by his live-in girlfriend. A department detective says foul play isn't suspected right now. Autopsy results conducted by the county's medical examiner were not yet ready to offer a preliminary cause of death. Johnny was regarded as one of the nicest strongmen on the circuit, despite his intimidating appearance, which was bolstered by tattoos and piercings. He was six-foot-five and 390 pounds. At only 30, Johnny had not yet reached his peak in Strongman. At the 2002 World's Strongest Man Competition, his last major, he advanced to the finals for the first time, finishing fourth. In July he finished second in the American Championship.
