JAMESTOWN, N.C. — Throughout the past week, we've heard stories from all over the Triad about the ways our community is stepping up to help our neighbors in the West.
On Monday, popular Jamestown restaurant Southern Roots took supplies to western North Carolina to cook hot meals for thousands in need.
They left Monday morning with a 26-foot truck filled to the brim. They'll be going to a few different spots across western NC, including the town of Vilas in Buncombe County and a few spots in Ashe County.
The owner of Southern Roots said she couldn't be more proud of how the community has come together.
"I just know it's what I'm supposed to do. And everybody wants to help, and I just have a really big mouth and I just don't mind asking for help. A thousand is what we'll feed tomorrow probably, but starting Wednesday, we're gonna go up to two-thousand - and maybe more than that, said Lisa Hawley.
Hawley said as soon as she asked for help, it only took a few days for the truck to be filled and ready to go.
"This community always shows up - they always show up. Everybody's full of love," Hawley said.
