GREENSBORO, Ala. — Guilford County Schools hosted a town hall Monday night to warn about the dangers their children face on social media.
The district said too many students struggle because of their experiences online.
GCS parent Debra Johnson said her daughter dealt with bullying on social media and it really impacted her.
“It got to the point where she didn't want to go to school anymore. She just felt helpless,” Johnson said.
She said all parents need to make sure they check in with their children. Issues online can get covered up easily. She applauded the district's efforts to try to make a difference.
“I think they're doing a great job in trying to address these issues. I’m not sure - social media isn't going anywhere. I’m not sure there is an answer. There is no one answer,” Johnson continued.
Southern Guilford Middle School's principal also spoke out Monday night.
She said social media makes it easy for bullying to happen since people can hide behind screens.
She said her school is always looking at ways to make things safer for students.
