2 Wants to Know checked the ordinances of many cities in the Triad. All the ordinances say property or business owners are the ones who have to get out there and shovel the snow or plow the parking lot.
But, what happens if someone slips and falls?
Well it turns out liability is a slippery issue. Many insurance agents actually tell their business clients not to touch the snow at all.
Here's why: it can be really hard to remove every icy patch from a sidewalk. The puddle on the sidewalk in the afternoon will freeze early evening.
Insurance agents said that's when a business or property owner becomes liable if someone slips and falls. The rule also applies to homeowners.
