GREENSBORO, N.C. — Monday was like any other day on campus for North Carolina A&T State University students.
Almost as if Barbee Hall wasn't the center of a crime scene Sunday night.
An Aggie Alert was sent to students around midnight.
Sophomore Alyssa Najib was downstairs when she said university police told her there was a shooting on the second floor.
"There were about 5-10 cars outside and about 10 police officers inside," Najib said.
University Police said freshman Nicholas McCall got into an argument with his girlfriend 19-year-old Jalia Gibson who is not a student.
Things escalated in McCall's dorm room and police said his girlfriend fired a shot.
The bullet went through the wall and into a neighboring room where students were inside.
It's a miracle no one was hurt.
"Everything that just happened is crazy," said freshman Jalen Cobb.
Cobb lives on the second floor and was in his room when the shooting happened.
"I was chilling watching YouTube videos and doing homework," Cobb said. "I didn't hear anything. I didn't know anything until the Barbee group chat said cops are pulling up."
"I wish that they had more security measures because that's dangerous," Najib said. "Students are here to learn so it is upsetting that that happened."
Police said they responded quickly and arrested both McCall and Gibson.
The University Police Department's Chief shared a statement on the situation:
"I think our school does the best they can," Cobb said. "They have security guards 24/7.
Both Gibson and McCall are facing several charges including felony possession of a weapon on educational property.
Gibson was also charged with felony firing a weapon into an occupied dwelling. Police said there was only one gun tied to the incident.
Gibson is being held at the Greensboro Jail without bond.
McCall is also in jail on a $1,000 secured bond.
As for students caught in the crossfire, the university is offering counseling for those who want it.
The university sent a reminder to students that weapons are not allowed on campus and encouraged them to let an RA or UPD know if students are breaking the law.
