Sheriff: Man Severely Burned In Stokes Co. Fire Dies

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. -- A Walnut Cove fire is still under investigation after deputies say a man died after he was severely burned during the blaze.

The Stokes County Sheriff's Office told WFMY News 2 the fire happened Saturday night at 1473 Rothrock Road. A passerby called the fire department and said they saw smoke and the patient coming out of the structure on fire. The caller then said they quickly found some water and extinguished the patient's clothes.

When fire crews arrived on scene, they said they found a man lying on the ground with severe burns. He was taken to Wake Forest Baptist for treatment.

ID=70360054The Fire Marshal's office said they were told on Sunday the man had died as a result of his injuries sustained from the fire. The man's name has not been released.

Deputies said the house had moderate damage due to the fire extending to the roof. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
