A new report shows marine biologists aren't only seeing more sharks along the North Carolina coast, but bigger ones too. While that may be a scary thought for swimmers, experts say it's actually a very good sign.
After the movie "Jaws" came out in 1975, shark numbers across the country plummeted. These new sightings are really the first time we've seen shark sightings go up since then.
Marine biologists say it's due in large part to federal protections aimed at helping shark populations rebound.
It's good news for more than just sharks. By keeping the shark populations healthy, the entire coastline is healthy because they're a crucial part of the ecosystem.
If we don't have a balance, we can't have seafood.
