COLFAX, N.C. — A local gas station is honoring a fallen officer.
Sergeant Philip Dale Nix was killed after a shooting at a Sheetz in Colfax.
At the gas station on Sandy Ridge Road, near a table where the officer used to sit and read, a plaque resides.
"Sgt. Dale Nix, We Will Hold Your Table Always!" it reads.
It was at that gas station where an off-duty Nix reportedly saw a crime in progress and was trying to stop it when he was shot. Coincidently, another off-duty officer and a Guilford County paramedic were on the scene.
They rushed to help Sgt. Nix, but he later died at the hospital.
