Schools Held Accountable: How Triad Schools Performed

Schools across the Triad release end-of-course test scores, overall student proficiency, academic growth, school performance grades, and graduation rates.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- — Wednesday several school districts across the Triad will release accountability numbers.

What are these numbers, and why do they matter?

The numbers include important statistics to let you know how your child's school is performing, and if it's getting better -- or worse.

Overall, the Triad's two largest districts, Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools, and Guilford County Schools both kept their grades pretty steady. However, the scores only tell part of the story because this year's scores were calculated with a new formula.

"The results are not surprising. We expected to see a decline in several measures," said Superintendent Dr. Sharon Contreras.

Since the scores vary, let's look at what why experts say they vary.

Officials say race and income are two huge factors. Based on the numbers in Guilford county if you take one high poverty school, and one low poverty school and compare the two it can be night and day.

Superintendent Contreras said this has been an issue for years, and still continues to be one today, but GCS thinks they're on the right track.

"It is an ongoing struggle. But you certainly need effective teachers, and the very best leaders in those schools," said Contreras.

You can find results for every school in the state here.
