STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — Firefighters are working to put out a blaze at the top of Sauratown Mountain in Stokes County.
On Saturday night, fire officials said multiple crews were on the scene battling to control the fire.
An official with Stokes County was going door to door to some of the homes near the top of Sauratown Mountain to inform citizens of the fire.
According to Guilford County Ranger, Jimmy Holt, 50 youth campers were evacuated from Mountain Top Youth Camp. No other evacuations have been reported, as of Sunday night.
Many of the homes on the mountain are not full-time residences, according to a Stokes County official.
As of Sunday night, the fire is approximately 60 acres. The fire is expected to continue to grow.
The North Carolina Forest Service was on the scene with heavy equipment and water lines.
Holt said firefighters are working to improve fire lines in order to protect communication towers and structures along Sauratown Mountain Road.
Sauratown Mountain is no stranger to wildfires, dozens of acres also burned in November 2021.
