Winston-Salem, NC -- Sara Lee has announced cutback plans that will cost 510 people their jobs.Citing "an ongoing review of its capacity requirements," Sara Lee Branded Apparel announced in a news release the company will reduce yarn and textile production at two facilities.The company says it has told employees in Eden and Galax it will phase out part of the yarn production based in Eden, as well as knitting, bleaching, finishing and cutting based in Galax by the end of May 2006. Approximately 178 positions in Eden and 332 positions in Galax will be affected by the changes.Company leaders say the regret the job losses, but they're necessary for Sara Lee to remain competitive. Affected employees will receive pay and benefits continuation and assistance in making career transitions.
