GREENSBORO, N.C. — WFMY News 2 is on a big announcement that will help Samaritan's Purse. You know the organization has been helping our neighbors in western North Carolina with food, supplies, and clean-up. Now, they're getting a little help, actually, it's a big help!
Friday, October 11 at 10 am, the North Carolina State Treasurer is going to hand over a check for $50,130.96 to Samaritan's Purse. The money was found in the state's unclaimed cash.
The Treasurer joined us during our 4 pm newscast to discuss it.
"Samaritan's Purse was designated the beneficiary of a life insurance policy but it never connected so we are able to present this money and obviously they will be able to put it to good use," said Dale Folwell, NC State Treasurer.
NCcash.com is the unclaimed cash and property in our state. This state website is for real.
WHAT IS UNCLAIMED CASH OR PROPERTY?
These are funds from closed bank accounts, wages that were owed, utility deposits, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, bonds...the contents of safe deposit boxes that have been abandoned for a period of time.
IT'S FREE TO CHECK YOUR NAME AND GET YOUR CASH.
You never have to pay to check your name or get your cash. You simply go to NCcash.com and put in your name. You can put in several addresses if you have lived in various places. To make sure it's you, the website will ask you for your social security number. This is how it cross-references the data to make sure the right person is claiming the property.
My warning: Do not Google "unclaimed cash". There are third-party sites that will charge you for what the state is doing for free.
