RANDLEMAN, N.C. — More jobs are coming to the Triad!
Ross Stores Inc. has selected a site of around 330 acres in Randleman to create a new distribution center.
The site will be just off I-74 and US Hwy. 311 near Wall Brothers Road in Randleman.
The center will consist of 1.7 million square feet.
At least 852 new jobs will be created from this build and, according to Ross, will pay wages above the Randolph County average.
According to a press release from Governor Roy Cooper, these new jobs could create a payroll impact of more than $39 million for the region each year.
Governor Cooper released a statement regarding the site.
“We are delighted to welcome Ross Stores to Randolph County,” said Governor Cooper. “Nationally recognized brands like Ross will appreciate the quality of life in North Carolina as well as the capability of our world-class workforce to help them grow and succeed.”
It's the latest win for a local county helping lead the charge for development.
Randolph County Board of Commissioners chairman Darell Frye said it'll help families who recently lost their jobs.
"As you know we lost Klaussner a few months back and it cost us about 850 employees and this is about 852 employees," Frye said. "So people won't be out of work very long."
The $450 million the company invests over the next five years will help leaders keep the county and city in good shape.
"It means that we can use it to pay for education and for other county services we provide and citizens maintain an affordable tax rate," Frye said.
"We're also appreciative that they picked this site over several locations," said Randleman Mayor Gary Betts. "It means that our revenue increased. It will help provide our services for our fire department, our police department and our city operations and sanitation. "
Randleman Mayor Gary Betts said with so much growth in the area they're excited but also adamant about not letting it take away from their small-town feel.
"We like controlled growth. Like the mega site out here is in a position where it doesn't affect the everyday life of residents of Randleman," Betts said. "We like our family way of life around here."
Betts said the city's available workforce made them great candidates.
"It's at the interchange of I-74 is convenient to travel all over the state of North Carolina," Betts said.
Frye said the county's much lower tax rate was another great incentive.
"Of course we have the Toyota project that's beginning to pay property taxes," Frye said. "We lowered our tax rate last year. Our cost of living here is lower than in other areas of the Triad also."
Both Frye and Betts said they're proud to have a household name making products In their backyard.
Contractors will start moving dirt within the next 6 months to a year.
