GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Let's face it, no locker room is pristine.
You may encounter some sweaty smells, and some dirty jerseys, but mice trapped and waiting to die? That's not a sight you want to see.
Northwest Guilford High School's student newspaper called Northwest Horizons reports that other students there are calling the condition in the girls locker room "disgusting."
Guilford County Schools tell WFMY News 2 that Northwest Guilford maintenance crews put out the original glue traps you see in the above picture. Northwest Horizons published an article about it.
Guilford County Schools sent us this statement from Gerald Greeson, Executive Director of Maitenance:
“A pest problem is a natural occurrence, and one that is more likely to occur in a building like Northwest that is 60 years old. Our first priority is the students, so we don’t use any materials that could cause harm to people, such as sprays or snap traps. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
Guilford County Schools sent the company Pest Management Systems Inc. to inspect the school Friday evening. We have not yet gotten an update on the findings. But Pest Management says the first step is finding out how the mice got their in the first place.
Pest Management Systems Inc. General Manager, John Berlin, says glue traps are safer than snap traps with students walking around. But Berlin said the correct way to set up a glue trap is to fold it so no one will step on it. The glue trap in the picture appears to lay flat.
"Our first priority is the safety of the children and people that are there. But the glue boards are easier to get off than other traps that are exposed to them," Berlin said.
With the unpleasant discovery of mice, comes more unpleasantness.
"Any specific issues you have with mice most of the time you're going to find droppings."
